Understanding how licenses are consumed
Profile Magician uses a simple, flexible licensing model based on migrated machines.
How it Works
- Per Machine: A license is consumed when you successfully migrate a machine.
- Unlimited Re-runs: Once a machine is licensed (identified by its unique Hardware ID), you can run Profmage on it as many times as you want without consuming additional licenses.
- Consumption Trigger: The license is deducted from your pool at the beginning of the migration process (Step 1), after the client validates that valid profiles exist to migrate.
License Types
Organization License (Cloud)
When using Cloud Migration (Job ID), the client automatically checks your organization's pool in the web portal.
- If the machine is new, 1 license is deducted.
- If the machine was seen before, 0 licenses are deducted.
Standalone License Key
For manual CLI usage, you can copy your Organization License Key from the Dashboard.
- Pass it via
--license-key <KEY>
Checking Usage
You can view your current license usage (Total vs. Used) on the Dashboard or Billing page.
